This is pretty much how my phone call with my dad went last night.
“So,” I said. “I think I wrote the most depressing story ever today.”
“Really,” he answered. “You have to write about a dead baby or something?”
“Yeah,” I said. “A 6-month-old little girl. She suffocated.”
“Oh.”
Meet Monica Garcia-Lopez.
I don’t know much about her short life other than it ended badly. Her father is now on the lam under suspicion of first-degree manslaughter.
I read the story before reading your blog. A sad story indeed and it must have been hard to write. Your story has a powerful beginning and ending. I can’t help but think of the little 6 month old girl now whenever I see a red pillow.
Jesus.
Great storytelling, though, Jacob. While depressing, it was a captivating read.
Thanks for talking tonight.
The word depressing seems insufficiant.
Very nicely written, Jacob.
Tragic may have been more appropriate, but thanks.
The sad stories almost right themselves. Though it goes without saying that no one should have to write a story like this.
