Poor Paddy, his railway be busted

An old rail line leading to Hoquiam Plywood is falling into disrepair and threatens to put the business under. Here’s the story.
I have to admit that writing about railroads is one of those things I enjoy just a little bit more. This may be due to my father’s passion for trains, or the fact that they stem from a time that seems classic, forged with brute power and blood.
Either way, I kind of enjoyed this story and railroads maintain a place on a random list of coverage like unions and the military that I simply like to report.
If anyone else has a list of random things they really like to write or read about — I guess that could be interesting. You should post it.
For the record: “Poor Paddy” is an Irish folk song about a railroad worker. It has nothing to do with the story.

For my high school senior thesis, I wrote about the practicality of a high-speed train network in the United States. It wasn’t very persuasive.
Also, I like writing about wildfires, but that’s an obvious one.
I had forgotten about how incredible wildfires are to cover. They’re terrible and terrifying, but reporting on them is just an amazing experience.
The Colfax fire will live on forever.
