You know what sounds fun if you’ve never owned a truck in your life and you suddenly have one? 
You know what you shouldn’t do if you’ve never owned a truck in your life?
Drive on the beach.
Thankfully, a guy in a little four-wheel drive truck came by and pulled us out. My eyes were bigger than my tires. But it could have been worse.
And there are worse places to be stuck than the beach at sunset.

It seems entirely appropriate that your cantankerous car would die, only to be replace by an equally cantankerous truck.
I had a very similar automobile. Enjoy the 7 mpg.
