Random journalism from the week

Here’s a photo of a mural downtown depicting some hope for industrial growth returning to the area. Many believe it can, while others think Grays Harbor will have to find a new way to survive.
Anyway, I just took a picture because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a paper I worked for in a mural.
Here’s some stories from this week in case you missed them:
The Saron Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hoquiam is celebrating 100 years of worship. The story ran yesterday and I happened to walk by their sister church Trinity Lutheran, which did not make it 100 years. It combined with Amazing Grace.
This is a picture of the old building.
A 21-year-old corrections officer was arrested and fired after he was accused of sending nude pictures to a 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old girl via cell phone. The transfer of pornographic images over cell phones has been coming up a lot lately.
The body of a 33-year-old man who went missing in 2005 was discovered by a work crew north of Montesano. He was positively identified the next day. The coroner ruled suicide.
The Hoquiam City Council approves a plan amendment to open up funding for a railroad study. Not as random, but a basic meeting round-up.
Drunk transient gets a year in jail for threatening to blow up the bus depot. He doesn’t remember making the call.
An apartment building downtown catches fire when the building manager plugs in too many outlets. No one is injured.
So those were some of the stories I did this week. A little random, but not too bad a representation of the kind of bouncing around we do on our beats to try to cover everything.
