Other than a few drunks starting their summer a bit early there wasn’t too much to do on the weekend shift tonight.
There were a few briefs to write up and schedules to formate, but I mostly listened to music in one ear and scanner chatter in the other.
However, like I said, the drunks are up [...]

June 20 — UPDATE: The blog meeting did not go well. Apparently, our Web content management contract is the most fascist thing since Mussolini. We are not allowed to take initiative. Something may work out later, but I basically want to scream.

My editors and I are meeting this week to discuss the possibility of establishing [...]

Random shoreline photography

So apparent I felt compelled to snap a random picture of the shoreline while touring the pontoon construction site in Hoquiam last week. And then I felt compelled to make it black and white.
Here’s the pontoon tour story. That’s it.
Enjoy.

An eye for evidence, and history

Meet Lane Youmans — deputy coroner, cold case specialist, crime scene investigator and “butter boy” — he will be the subject of my Sunday Profile this week. Keep an eye out.
This is a photo of him at the 80-year-old 7th Street Theatre in Hoquiam where he often volunteers. It did not make the cut for [...]

Westport waves

Here are a few more surfing pictures from the Seventh Annual Clean Water Classic competition at Westhaven State Park in Westport. These didn’t make the paper. Enjoy.
For the record: I spent all day in court. Hopefully court quotes will be back soon.
More pictures below.

A tough situation

I have probably mentioned this story to a couple of people, but we finally ran it today. This is 71-year-old Kitty Rowell who now lives out of her car after her home burned down in December.
It’s a situation no one has been able, or willing, to fix. But it seems like something is definitely wrong [...]

A dose of summer

I got the sweet gig of looking for warm weather art yesterday as record temperatures hit 81 degrees in Hoquiam. This is 3-year-old Jaimeson chucking cherry blossoms at me during a flower fight in the park.
I got lucky. I stumbled on this flower fight almost as soon as I started looking for wildart and it [...]
